Yeah, I know it’s not exactly eco-friendly to buy pears flown in from New Zealand. And, yes, it completely runs contrary to my (mostly) locavore inclinations, but…these pears are delicious!
The Taylor resembles a squat Bosc pear, but the brown skin isn’t nearly so rough or thick as the skin of the Bosc. The flesh is soft, mildly sweet, a bit Bartlett-like in texture. It’s a bit like a fusion of the two varieties.
Very, very good. I ate it with a slice of salty, aged Pecorino and the combo was awesome!
