Tropical Trail Mix

A great and easy-to-make snack!

I’ve been interested in homemade snacks lately and this healthy trail mix is just one of the many things I’ve been dabbling in. I’ve also been drying fruit, making beef jerky, making homemade potato chips, and frying churros; hopefully I’ll get a chance to post about those projects as well.

But I’ll start with trail mix. It’s super-easy, in that you can basically throw in whatever you want into the mix — any kind of nut, any kind of dried fruit, any sort of seed or little sweet tidbits. It just has to be dry and you should have a nice mixture of sweet and salty, soft and crunchy. If you want to make this particular trail mix, it contains the following (roughly, as I didn’t bother with measurements):

  • about two cups raw almonds
  • a cup and a half of roasted, salted cashews
  • a cup and a half of yogurt-covered raisins
  • a big handful of dried pineapple
  • a quarter-cup of angel flake shredded coconut
  • a half-cup of raw pumpkin seeds
  • a cup and half of banana chips
  • a half-cup of dried date chunks
  • a cup of dried tart cherries
  • a half-cup of dried cranberries
Toss that together and put it into an air-tight container. Happy snacking!

Store it in an airtight container and trail mix will last for weeks, if not months!
